Laudato Si’ On Care for Our Common Home Ways to “Green” Your Christmas “A constant flood of new consumer goods can baffle the heart and prevent us from cherishing each thing and each moment.” (Laudato Si’, 222) Advent is HERE and, with it, comes the challenge of not getting caught up in the intense consumerism of the season. If we wish to nurture in ourselves and our children the goal of keeping Christ at the center of our advent preparation and our Christmas celebrations, we are called to be more mindful of making the holidays a time to care for creation and to care for our neighbors who have need. Here are a few ways to “green” your Christmas: ·Buy one fewer gift this year and instead spend time with a beloved friend or family member ·Try to buy locally, instead of purchasing products that must be transported long distances ·Purchase decorations and gifts from Ladies of Charity or the KARM Christmas Store ·Spend 5-10 minutes researching ethical and sustainable sources for your gift Pray for peace and joy throughout the coming weeks
